Review: Ravioriselli Ravioli with MozzaRisella

Review: Ravioriselli Ravioli with MozzaRisella

Egg-free fresh pasta with dairy-free cheese filling. Vegan ravioli made with the best vegan cheese is like a dream come true. When we heard that MozzaRisella were expanding their product line, we couldn't wait to test some of it. The company sent us some review samples of the spinach ravioli and courgette (zucchini) ravioli, both of which have CreamyRisella within:

Technically, these are not MozzaRisella products, but rather they are La Spiga Bio products with MozzaRisella filling. La Spiga Bio are an italian company who already make vegan ravioli, but previously this has been with tofu. CreamyRisella is the soft cheese version of MozzaRisella, which we reviewed here.

The ravioli is made with fresh pasta and cooking is therefore really quick - just 3 minutes in a pan of salted water and they're done. If you're not making a sauce, then it's best to drain the water off and add a knob of margarine, both for a little extra flavour and to keep the ravioli from sticking together.

This is really tasty ravioli. Small and quite delicate pasta pouches with a punchy vegetable and cheesy filling. They're great to eat just as they are, without needing a sauce, and they make quite an exciting quick lunch with some salad.

The filling isn't overly cheesy, but mostly vegetable with a small amount of CreamyRisella and some breadcrumbs. We were expecting to see the vegan cheese, but you can't really see it amongst the spinach (above) or the courgette (below). The taste is far superior to tofu fillings though, like in the Biona ravioli we reviewed, so the cheese is doing its job.

This is fantastic ravioli, and we hope it's a sign of more great products to come from MozzaRisella. We're hoping for the cheese to feature more prominently in future, but this is a great start and a welcome addition to the vegan food market.

Ravioriselli can be bought from MozzaRisella's online store:

Verdict: Perfect Pasta Pouches

  1. Vegan filled pastas are something really missing from the market. It would be lovely to have a vegan option available as part of supermarkets standard ranges.

    1. That's right, it doesn't even need to be filled with vegan cheese! Egg-free pasta (very common) filled with vegetables would be a start.

  2. Sainsburys used to sell a Setain filled pasta parcels with pasta sauce in a jar. Not sure if they still do but it was "Danival. Ravioli stuffed with organic seitan" (there is a veg stuffed one if you can find a retailer!)
