Vegan Taste Test: Best Supermarket Mince Pies

A selection of vegan mince pies from various supermarkets for our Christmas Taste Test. Many supermarkets now do both regular and posh mince pies, with the latter having butter pastry. That's fine with us vegans as it means the regular pies are likely to be clear of dairy fat. We took three lots of pies and compared them, hot and cold, to see if there is a clear favourite. UPDATE: includes two sorts of ASDA mince pies.

Award-winning one-woman vegan bakery. When Hannah Banana Bakery was announced as the winner of Best Vegan Cakes at this year's UK Vegan Awards last Saturday, there was a huge cheer. Leicester's answer to Ms Cupcake? Makers of vegan cupcakes, wedding cakes, birthday cakes and more, the Vegan Cakery is a vegan cake making business started earlier this year by Michelle Orme. Their fabulous range of cakes is currently sold online and at vegan events across the midlands. They don't have a retail presence of their own, but that hasn't stopped Michelle from making her cakes available on the high street, as they're also stocked at a couple of venues in the Leicester area:

Shoparound: M&S Bakery Iced Buns, Fruit Loaf and more

Marks and Spencer Bakery vegan stuff

Marks and Spencer have an official vegan list but we like to shop off-piste. If you've any doubt about our review policy read the how vegan is vegan post. Armed with a smartphone to check additives we took a visit to M&S's in-store bakery on a rumour that there were vegan iced buns to be had. Sure enough the buns were animal-free and we picked up a basket full of similar goodies too.
