A pack of three griddled vegan steaks made from gluten. Sojade's meat-free range now includes burgers, steaks and the roulade we reviewed, but strangely their soya mince contains egg (despite espousing the benefits of a vegan diet on their UK website). Can a seitan-based steak cut the mustard?

Viana Bonanza Veggie Steaks are vegan

Meat-free 4oz steaks from German firm Viana. These are slightly spicy wheat/soy protein patties of 105g (4oz) each. You get two in a pack. They can be pan-fried or cooked in the oven, or even on the barbecue. We served some up with french fries and petits pois for a vegan steak-frites:

Review: Taifun Tofritto tofu steaks


Our favourite tofu producer Taifun also makes sausages, cutlets, filets and steaks, all from the finest German tofu (made from German-grown organic soya beans). The latest line to hit chiller shelves in the UK is their Tofritto brand of tofu steaks. The product comes in two flavours, Cashew & Olives and Capers & Peppers. The steaks can be eaten cold but are best pan-fried until crispy. We fried up the Cashew & Olive steak for our review:
