Vegan Shopper: Supermarket Vegan Lists

Supermarket Vegan Lists

UPDATE: Head straight to the Vegan Womble for the latest lists which are maintained on this page:

The hardworking Vegan Womble has gathered vegan lists from Waitrose, M&S, Sainsburys, Tesco, and the Coop, as well as Walkers, KP, Quaker Oats, Warburtons and more. We've got the links below, along with some great guides from Vegan Womble on shopping vegan in the UK:

Review: Sainsbury's Choc Chip Peanut Butter

Crunchy peanut butter with dark chocolate chips in it. At least that's what the jar says. We'd describe it more as peanut butter with swirls of chocolate sauce in it...at least at this time of year anyway:

Leftovers: Sainsbury's Chocolate Orange Thins

Sort of orangey After Eights. Part of the stuff-we-didn't-review-before-Christmas. These chocolate thins were in all the supermarkets at Christmas, in flavours including mint, turkish delight and orange. They all seem to be made in the same place, as the packs and the chocs are identical. Even the Divine ones are identical (though made with fairtrade chocolate). We picked up these orange ones from Sainsburys. Were we fond-ant of them?

Review: Sainsbury's FreeFrom Chocolate Mint Crisps

Ever get the feeling you've had something before? These after dinner mint chocolates will be very familiar if you've eaten the Celtic Chocolates version... which we reviewed just last month. Companies like Celtic repackage their chocolates for supermarkets to sell as their own brand and we're sure that has happened here. Sainsbury's also sell a chocolate bar remarkably similar to a Celtic bar. If you missed our recent Celtic review, read on:

Campaign: Get Frys Stocked in Sainsbury's

Fat Gay Vegan has launched a campaign to get more vegan options stocked in UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's, and we're right behind him. The focus is on getting Frys vegan range offered in the freezer section instead of just Quorn, which contains animal products. Sainsbury's has fallen behind Tesco in catering to the growing Free From market, especially in their range of vegan food, but neither retailer stocks Frys great vegan selection.

The Frys range includes burgers, sausages, mince, schnitzels, and chicken style products, all of which are really great tasting. We'd love to see them stocked at our local Sainsbury's

You can back the campaign by signing the online petition over at FGV.

Review: Sainsbury's 'Rice Milk' Choc Bar

Sainsbury's Free From Choc Bar (vegan)

Sainsbury's Free From range may not yet be on a par with Tesco's range, but they have one or two things of note. This faux milk chocolate bar is one of those offerings. We're pretty sure this is made by Celtic who produce a wide range of dairy-free chocolates under their own name, including those fab caramels...the distinctive ribbed chunks are the same as those of Celtic's own bars...
