Review: Go Max Go - 2Fer Bar

Go Max Go - 2Fer Bar

Vegan Twix style bar with shortbread, caramel and chocolate. Single bar rather than twin fingers. This is the latest addition to Go Max Go's veganized range of chocolate bars. They already do passable vegan imitations of Mars, Snickers, Milky Way, Bounty and Peanut Butter Cups. The Twix bar should have been an easy one...

Somehow they've contrived to get it wrong though. This is the least successful of the bars in the range in our opinion. It just doesn't taste like a Twix.

In fact is tastes quite odd, mostly of rice powder and sugar. We reckon if you blind tested this to non vegans they'd never guess what it was even supposed to be. If anything it tastes like Lazy Day's Millionaire's Shortbread, which at least has the same elements of shortbread, caramel and chocolate.

What we find odd is that the chocolate doesn't even taste like chocolate, and it's much more exposed here than in the other bars. The biscuit should be easy, anyone can make vegan shortbread, but even that has an odd texture. The caramel is pastey rather than gooey and lacks caramel flavour.

Round Up

Ok, it doesn't exactly taste bad. It's sweet and filling and it's the nearest thing we've got to a dairy-free Twix. It could be so much better though - imagine a Choices Caramel, with a biscuit base - now that would taste much more like a Twix.

Veganoo Score: ★★★
Go Max Go - 2Fer Bar
~
The Good: Nearest thing to a vegan Twix
The Not-so-Good: Tastes nothing like a vegan Twix..

  1. I am so glad I wasn't the only person who felt this way. As soon as I tried one of these I thought "Lazy Days Millionaires shortbread" which I don't like because I think they taste a bit like mayo (weird I know). The white chocolate Cleos are much better though

  2. I got one of these in this month's Vegan Tuck Box and was so disappointed. The biscuit seemed stale and not crunchy at all... I wondered if it was off! I absolutely love everything else of their's that I have tried.

    1. Definitely a misfire, because like you say, the rest of the range is pretty good
