New: Hobnob Choc Chip Biscuits

Vegan Hobnob Choc Chip Biscuits

McVitie's Hobnobs have long been vegan and at one time Plain Chocolate Hobnobs were vegan too. That's no longer the case, but these new Choc Chip Hobnobs are a great alternative. They use a plain chocolate recipe that doesn't include dairy fat. Oaty Hobnobs full of lovely dark chocolate chips. Somebody put the kettle on!

Hobnob Choc Chip Biscuits

The funny thing about these biscuits is that the choc chips are much more in evidence on the back. From the front you can hardly see them, but there's a full 11% chocolate in there. As you bite in you get a little waft of vanilla from the chocolate, then a lovely dark cocoa flavour.

These aren't as chocolatey as the half-coated biscuits, but they're a nice step up from a plain oaty Hobnob. We'd certainly recommend these for dunking, especially in coffee. Let's hope that the dairy-fat is one day removed from the Plain Chocolate Hobnobs too.

Verdict: Choc Chip Champs

    1. Read our Review Policy on the About Us tab. These biscuits are just made on a production line that's also used for dairy.

  4. Found them in my local Asda today! They are great biscuits.
Such a shame plain chocolate hobnobs still contain milk :(

  5. I saw these in my local Tesco Express the other week. I almost didn't bother with them since I've looked at the plain chocolate ones so many times hoping I'd read the ingredients list wrong. Couldn't believe it when I saw there was no milk. When I got home I ate the whole pack in one go! I'm so disgusted with myself, but they are really good! Tasted even better than I expected.

By the way, great blog! I don't know how I've not seen it before. Just came across it when Googling Bourneville.

  6. What about Palm oil? That kills elephants and orangutang. Often the chocolates in vegan stores are not edible for me for this reason.

  7. I agree with rennie vegalante - I no longer knowingly buy products that contain palm oil. It may be of vegetable origin, but it causes significant harm to animals; and that to me goes against the vegan ethos.

    1. Not sure they ever were on the vegan list as they share a production line with milk chocolate goods, but they meet our review policy as vegan.

  9. c'mon guys... are you not reading the ingredients.. sugar sugar soya salt sugar syrup.. that's all refined and gm junk.. you call it vegan if you want, but that sh&t right there is still death..

the amount of junk i see marketed/labeled as vegan.. i guess vegans are just meant to eat anything that doesn't contain animal or diary products.. but couldn't care less about health or environment.. fair enough
