Review: Beyond Dark Chocolate Drops

Beyond Dark Plain Chocolate Drops

Dairy-free Orange, Raspberry and Plain chocolate in mini-button drops. For lovers of strong dark chocolate. These 70% drops have had new packaging since we first reviewed them last year. The heart-with-horns motif is gone and the tagline is now "Moments of Pleasure". The dark drops remain the same, joined by the orange and raspberry flavours:

The shape of these drops is unlike anything else. They're not chocolate chips, or buttons or drops, but more like mini-buttons or sequins. Chocolate sequins... you heard it here first.

Beyond Dark Dairy-Free Vegan Chocolate

The drops all look the same...the flavour is blended into the chocolate itself. Getting orange and raspberry chocolate right is tough. Orange can be bitter and needs smooth dark chocolate to offset that..which we don't think is quite right here as the chocolate is pretty bitter.

Raspberry chocolate can be done really well - check out our review of Kernow Chocolate for a successful blend. The Beyond Dark recipe is much darker and not quite as balanced.

If you really love high-cocoa dark chocolate, then these drops may indeed be Moments of Pleasure though. The plain ones are excellent, we're just not entirely convinced by the fruity flavours.

The Good: Excellent high-cocoa chocolate
The Not-so-good: Fruity flavours a little unbalanced by the bitterness
