Review: Granovita Soyesse Desserts

Review: Granovita Soyesse Desserts

Yoghurt-style desserts from @GranoVitaUK which replace their Soyage line. The desserts come in six flavours: Plain, Strawberry, Raspberry, Banana, Black Cherry and Peach & Apricot. GranoVita sent us a couple of pots of the Peach and Apricot flavour for our review:

We were never big fans of the old Soyage line - they were far from 'Deluxe' as their labels hopefully promised, being runny, grainy and tasting strongly of soy. These new Soyesse desserts have a higher fruit content and are meant to be creamier and smoother.

The graininess is not entirely gone, although we can't quite figure out where it comes from. It may be just pulped fruit. The creaminess is also a little in short supply - although these look like yoghurts, they have no milkiness and are not cultured. The texture is more like a smoothie than a yoghurt, but thicker thanks to the stabilisers (carob, xanthan and guar gums).

These desserts are sweet, with syrup being high up on the list of ingredients. The taste of our peach and apricot sample was pleasant enough though - mild and fruity.

We'd like to be more positive about these desserts. When we heard that GranoVita had brought out this new range, we looked high and low for them, with high expectations. The long life will be appealing (they are 'ambient' desserts that can be stored in the cupboard), but we can't think they will become must-buys in your weekly shop.

Verdict: Yesse...No...Maybe
