Vegan party food from the 2014 Festive Range. We got these in as a sort of Boxing Day thing, as naturally there is no leftover Turkey to use up. These faux-turkey breadcrumbed strips are chilled, with a good shelf life, and only need a quick blast in the oven. They should be ideal vegan buffet food:
There's a scant two servings in the pack, or just a decent single portion. The goujons are quite irregular shaped, some big and fat, and some little runts.
The fat ones have the better texture as they don't dry out so much in the oven. These goujons are very under-seasoned and really quite bland. We've previously reviewed the VBites chicken pieces, and without the breadcrumbs there is just enough chicken flavour on those to suffice. Here though, the crispy breadcrumbs are the most flavourful thing on offer.
You need a good dollop of garlic mayo to serve these with (review here) to have any sort of flavour. The company should review this recipe before rolling it out again next year - a good pinch of bouillon powder wouldn't go amiss.
The Good: Crispy coating
The Not-so-Good: Under-seasoned and bland
Veganoo Score: ★★★☆☆
