There's no coincidence that we reviewed these on Christmas Eve last year. Even if you're not into faux meat for the rest of the year, Christmas seems to be the season for tucking into tofurkey and vegan chipolatas. If you miss turkey and chicken since turning vegan, there are a few good options for your fowl-mouthed cravings, like these Vbites Chicken Style pieces:
The branding has changed in the last 12 months - the Redwood name is no more, but the VegiDeli range lives on. The product is also slightly different too, at least in terms of the size and shape of the pieces, which are now chunkier.
This is still one of the best options for cold vegan chicken on the market, with good flavour and texture. As before, the one downside is the dryness, with very little juiciness.
We don't recommend using these pieces in cooking, as they go soft and the chicken flavour is not strong enough to be tasted in any sort of sauce. Even if you're serving this chicken as part of a hot meal, like a roast dinner, it's best to serve it at room temperature or warmed gently in the oven.
Our best recommendation is to use these pieces for your Boxing Day turkey/chicken sandwich, with mayo or chutney on well 'buttered' bread. It's really delicious eaten this way.
The Not-so-Good: A bit on the dry side

These used to to really nice before they added the soya. Now they're drier, anaemic looking and a lot crumblier. I used to buy two packs a week and now I buy none. Shame, as it really was the best seitan I could readily find.
