Review: Parmezzano Vegan Parmesan

Vantastic Foods Parmezzano - vegan parmesan

Another parmesan-in-a-can option for your dairy-free pasta topping. The latest in a growing line of these type of products, this Vantastic one is based on soya flour. We've seen cashew and coconut used in recent alternatives, so this one is one of the more 'conventional' offerings:

The ingredients of this Parmezzano are almost identical to the now discontinued Parmazano from Life Foods. The soya flour and potato starch combine to make for a very bland and dry cheese. In flavour terms, there isn't actually much to speak of, except a faintly cheesy aroma whilst still in the shaker. Once on your pasta, all you'll really notice is the dry powdery texture. Not one to recommend.

The Alternatives

BELLISSIMO (Cherub)

Coconut flour based, with a salty/sugar flavour and a little fibrous, but not as dry and powdery.

Score: ★★★☆☆

PARMEZZO (Vegamigo)

Cashew based with nooch (nutritional yeast). Probably the most cheesy of these products.

Round Up

Vantastic Foods are one of those hit and miss companies. They make some great products but have no quality control when it comes to product development. This is one of their products which shouldn't have seen the light of day.

The Good: Er, salty and vaguely cheese like...?
The Not-so-Good: Dry and flavourless
