Food Fight: Anandas Vs Sweet Vegan

UPDATE: Sweet Vegan are now trading as Marshmallow Deli

Chocolate-coated marshmallow lollies from two artisan producers go head to head. Looking like edible gladiator's pugil sticks, we put both in the ring for a Food Fight. Will Ananda's or Sweet Vegan take the title of best vegan marshmallow lolly? Read on, fight fans:

Left: Anandas, Right: Sweet Vegan

Each of these marshmallow treats is a similar price and a similar size. Each is a single piece of gelatine-free marshmallow, covered in dairy-free chocolate. Each too, is topped with vegan sprinkles. Here, the similarity ends though...

Left: Anandas, Right: Sweet Vegan

Take a bite and you'll discover very different marshmallow textures...

We've reviewed Ananda's marshmallows before and found them firm, but OK. This time though, the texture and taste is all wrong. The marshmallow is so firm, and so bland, it's more like tofu! It isn't sweet, or fluffy or vanilla scented... just bland and rubbery. The chocolate's good, but these lollies weren't enjoyable at all.

The Sweet Vegan lollies meanwhile, are heavenly. The marshmallow is pillow soft, fluffy, sticky and sweet. The chocolate cracks as you bite because the marshmallow gives way beneath. We found the chocolate a bit too dark for our liking - the cocoa bitterness is too much of a contrast with the soft sweet marshmallow. Overall though - the marshmallow filling is so good that these lollies are a real treat.

We have a clear winner of our Food Fight. Sweet Vegan is the champion. Ananda's make great vegan wagon wheels, but for the softest, fluffiest marshmallow, Sweet Vegan takes the biscuit.

  1. If Sweet Vegan is now trading as Marshmallow Deli dont order you never get your delivery ! Lots of people disappointed ! This is twice now ive ordered at Christmas abd not got my order after a few emails Carmen doesnt respond she always as an excuse reading from other reviews ! Last Christmas it was Carbon Monoxide poisoning ??? Anyway she recovered and started trading again only to repeat process again on no show orders ! Its a real shame because Carmens marshmallows are the best ! I think she gets that many orders she cant keep up ...perhaps she should take on more staff ???
Shame but dont want anymore people being disappointed ...please read reviews before ordering !

  3. Although this post is a couple of years old, nothing with regards to marshmallow deli has changed. I have now been in contact with multiple people that have not received their order and are now struggling to get a refund. Definitely avoid and check the reviews.
