Melting vegan marshmallows in a wide range of flavours. We recently reviewed Ananda's vegan Waggon Wheels and promised a follow up with a review of their marshmallows. We picked up three flavours from Ananda's online shop - Strawberry Dream, Choca Mocha, and Lemon Crunch:
It's worth noting that these 'mallows are made fresh and have quite a short shelf life compared to commercial marshmallows. The texture is also on the firmer side and has a bit of a crust, and when we offered them around they were mistaken more than once for crispy fried tofu! Be reassured that they're not that crispy.
The flavours are bold and distinct, with the syrupy Lemon Crunch being our favourite. Choca Mocha is quite tiramisu-like, and the Strawberry Dream is sweet and fruity.
These marshmallows melt superbly. Our photo doesn't do justice to how good these were after being heated under a low grill (broiler) for a couple of minutes. They look like they're smoking and burning, but it's actually just steam, and they didn't char at all. They do shrink and fall away off the skewer, so catch them in some foil. The melted texture is soft, chewy and delicious - the best melting mallows we've tried.
It's still barbecue season, so order some from Ananda's online store and try some on a cool barbecue for a sticky dessert...
Verdict: Melt Me a Mallow
