Rice milk yoghurt/dessert with strawberry and blackcurrant. Sojade Riz is a line of rice based desserts for those who want to avoid both dairy and soya. These desserts are chilled, and look very similar to the Sojade soya desserts, but are quite different. The flavours available are Apricot, Mango/Passionfruit and Strawberry/Blackcurrant. We picked up a twin pack of the latter flavour for our review:
Like the soya desserts, the only vegan labelling is hidden away on the pot lids - maybe the cardboard sleeves had been printed before the Vegan Society registration came through?
When we say these are distinct from the soya desserts, we mean they're completely different. The soya desserts are smooth, thick and creamy...while these are thin, runny and grainy. They're not like yoghurts, as they don't have any milkiness about them, and they're not cultured. What they are, is pureed fruit, thickened with rice flour...then thinned with water.
We don't really like these desserts and wouldn't buy them again. They don't represent a good dairy-free alternative, as they don't resemble anything recognisable. They're sweet, and not unpleasant, but they're also watery and grainy.
Verdict: Runny Rice
Veganoo Score: ★★☆☆☆
