Review: Venchi Extra Dark Hazelnut Chocolate

Venchi Extra Dark Piedmont Hazelnut Chocolate

Italian chocolate with Piedmont hazelnuts. Venchi have been making fine chocolate since 1878, so they should be rather good at it. Many of their products are still hand made using artisanal techniques, and that could explain the price. This is expensive chocolate at nearly five quid for 150g. Is it worth it?

The chocolate is packed with hazelnuts and they look like they're bursting to get out if you turn the bar over.

Three chunks is all you get...but these are huge chunks, at 50g each. It's hard to judge the scale of this in our photo, but you wouldn't pop one of these in your mouth.

This is extra dark chocolate, but it's incredibly smooth and creamy, like nothing we've tried before. It really does melt in your mouth. The hazelnuts are roasted to perfection with a really toasted nuttiness. Although this bar is nothing more than plain chocolate with hazelnuts, it really is special. If you're a dark chocolate lover, or you know someone who is, then it's well worth spending the extra to try this.

Verdict: Piedmont Perfection
