Coconut based milkshake drinks for adults and kids, in 6 flavours, from London independent producers Rebel Kitchen. The company aims to make tasty, nourishing snacks available to everyone, at an affordable price. We picked up 3 of the milkshake flavours to see what the buzz is about.
The kids packs are small, coming in 200ml cartons. You'll pay between 84p and £1.29 for one, depending where you buy them, so affordability isn't always assured. The flavours in the kids range are chocolate, chocolate orange, and banana.
We tried the banana mylk, which tasted great, like a coconutty banana milkshake. The drinks are all sweetened with unrefined date syrup, but are sweet enough. There's cocoa in the banana flavour too, so there's a bit of a chocolatey taste too.
The adult drinks are bigger at 330ml and more expensive too. We paid £1.89 each for them, which isn't really affordable for individual milkshakes like this. The range includes Chocolate Mylk, but we went for the more interesting options - Chai Mylk and Matcha Green Tea Mylk.
The Matcha Mylk is pleasant - it's just coconut with a hint of sweet tea, and makes a change from the usual fruit shake options. The Chai Mylk though is truly horrible, and is one of the rare things we've reviewed that went down the sink. We can't imagine whatever possessed Rebel Kitchen to put turmeric in a milkshake. It tastes medicinal, yet muddy at the same time.
The Good: Great shakes, with no refined sugar
The Not-so-Good: That Chai flavour needs a new recipe...
