Review: Kingdom Double Choc Mousse

Kingdom - Double Choc Dark Chocolate Mousse

British dark chocolate bar with 'mousse' filling. Kingdom chocolate is a new brand which uses "ethical Ugandan cocoa", but doesn't have Fairtrade certification. The company produce several dark chocolates, but all except this one contain dairy. This one gets a vegan label, but with a king of mousse chocolate already crowned, can Kingdom take the throne?

To call this filling 'mousse' is over stretching it more than a little. The filling is actually quite hard to discern, as the texture is very close to the surrounding chocolate. At best, this is a truffle, but even then it's disappointing.

If you were given a chunk of this chocolate, you could eat it and assume it was just plain chocolate. Unless you actually bite across a chunk and hold it up to the light, the filling is barely noticeable. It's not unpleasant - this bar is a sweet soft dark chocolate, which you'll enjoy. It just isn't a mousse though.

It's a shame that on this occasion the British can't match the Swiss at making exciting dairy-free chocolate. Thank heavens for great British chocolate like Booja Booja.

Verdict: My Kingdom for a Mousse
