Vegan Christmas: VBites Turkey Style, Leek & Blue Cheezly Bites

VBites Turkey Style, Leek & Blue Cheezly Bites

Festive sides / nibbles in the VegiDeli range from VBites (formerly Redwood). We're not quite sure what these are replacing, but they're bite-sized hot nibbles made from soya, with turkey and blue cheese style flavours. Should you feed these to your guests, at your festive drinks party?

VBites produce quite a few products in this style of round mini-burgers. They look like the company's falafel offering as well as their kofta bites and party bites.

10 minutes in the oven is all that's required to heat these bites up. We followed the instructions to the letter, but ours looked a little burnt after just 10 minutes. You couldn't taste this blackening though.

We found the texture and taste of these quite indistinct. Although they're faux-meat in style, they aren't as meaty as you might expect. There's no flavour of turkey in there and definitely none of blue cheese either. We were half expecting an oozing centre of creamy blue cheeze, but it seems they just mixed some of their soya cheese into the soya meat, and lost it completely. There's a vague meaty flavour and nothing more.

This isn't a bad product, just a mediocre one. The company has proved that they can produce pretty good vegan food, but they need to improve some of their recipes to stay ahead in the ever changing vegan food scene.

Don't foist these on your party guests - even the hardened vegans will be disappointed at the experience.

Verdict: Bland Bites
