Review: D and D Chocolate Chips

D and D dairy free Chocolate Chips

A big bag of dairy-free chocolate chips for baking. D and D Chocolates produce a range of dairy-free carob and chocolate goodies, including fondants, bars and seasonal chocolates. The Siesta brand is part of D and D. This 350g bag of chocolate chips is dairy-free, gluten-free and nut-free and is made with a mild 55% dark chocolate which even kids will enjoy.

The bags look expensive at first glance (over 3 quid), but if you compare the value to smaller bags, you'll find these are an economic solution for baking with.

Vegan dairy-free Chocolate Chips

These chips are not faux-milk chocolate, just a not-too-dark plain chocolate that isn't too bitter for young tastes. The chips are a little roughly formed and come in a variable range of sizes.

The chocolate is quite hard, which means they're not that great to eat straight from the pack, but they do stand up well in baking - they don't melt into your cake mix.

We made some applesauce based choc-chip cupcakes, and used extra choc chips to decorate the buttercream. The choc chips are great in this type of cake.
