Review: Schlagfix Coffee Whitener

Schlagfix Coffee Whitener / Creamer

Liquid dairy-free coffee creamer in a mini carton from German firm LeHA. The company produces a range of non-dairy creams and whiteners available throughout mainland Europe. Veganstore have begun selling the coffee whitener here in the UK, along with their spray whip cream (review coming soon!)

This is an unusual product - it's the consistency of soya milk, and comes in a carton, albeit a small one. The key difference from soya milk is that this is more of a creamer than a whitener. The carton is also more discreet if you took it to a coffee shop. The health claim on the pack compares the calorie content to condensed milk. The texture isn't like condensed milk at all, but it's certainly very rich and may well have more more uses than just whitening coffee.

This is an excellent coffee whitener. The taste is absolutely neutral and the texture is non-powdery. It's very creamy and also slightly sweet, but not in an overpowering way. Adding this to instant coffee results in a drink tasting not unlike a milky latte.

In contrast to our recent test of powdered whitener SoyGo, this product dissolves very well. You will notice a few white specks after stirring, but these dissolve shortly afterwards.

The only drawback of this coffee creamer is that it isn't available in single-serve packs. Let's hope they fix that soon.

Verdict: Fix us a coffee

Update: We tried it in tea...and it isn't so good. The taste is not so neutral in tea, and it's too creamy. It also took longer for the white specks to dissolve after stirring.
