Review: Eskal Wafer Rolls with Chocolate Cream

Gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free wafer tubes for ice cream. Eskal produce a range of free-from foods, some of which are certified by the Vegan Society, including these chocolate wafer rolls. We found them in an independent health food shop and thought they'd be great served with some dairy-free ice cream:

We're rarely impressed with the texture of gluten-free foods, but this is one of those rare exceptions. You wouldn't know that these are wheat-free unless somebody showed you the packet. You probably wouldn't guess that they're egg and dairy-free either as we think they're pretty similar to other commercial wafer rolls.

They're wafer, rather than waffle, in texture - so they're light, crispy and quite fragile. Most of the ones in our pack were broken in two, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment. They're strong enough to scoop up some soft-set ice cream, and we thought they were really good. The chocolate cream in the middle is light and sweet, and these wafer rolls are good enough to make your dessert special.
