Chunks of vegan cheese with a crispy breadcrumb coating. Redwood's selection of snacks and party food seems to have exploded lately. We're not quite sure where these fit in to an everyday menu but we can imagine them being served as an appetiser. We've no idea what dairy pepperjack cheese tastes like as it's not really a cheese eaten in the UK. We certainly know what Cheezly tastes like though and we're interested in how it tastes hot and breadcrumbed.
Like most breadcrumbed food the Cheezly bites look pale when uncooked and not too appealing, although they can be eaten straight from the pack. The bites can be shallow fried or grilled (broiled), and only need a couple of minutes cooking time. We opted for the grill.
After a very quick grilling the bites look much more appetising, although they do have a tendency to spread out as the cheese melts. The bites are very greasy, which is not something we've come to expect from Redwood, whose products are usually low in fat. After grilling we drained the bites on some kitchen towel.
Verdict: Melty, Crispy, Tasty...but a little greasy.
