Vegan truffles from Nutritious Delicious, working closely with Montezuma's. We chose the lime flavour, but they also produce orange, vanilla and almond flavours. These truffles have a selling point of being 'good for you', with no refined sugar and with ingredients including lucuma, maca and ginseng. You might believe the health claims, but do they still taste like great truffles?
The presentation leaves a lot to be desired. Inside the attractive outer packaging you're presented with a little plastic bag with all of the truffles thrown in loose. This means each chocolate knocks against all of the others and the glossy shell gets covered in bits from from the other truffles. This would make us think twice about giving these as a gift.
Within each chocolate lies quite a dense truffle surrounded by fairly thick chocolate. We can't describe the truffle as velvety or smooth, as it's rather firm and dense. There are tiny chips of almond and sunflower seed within the truffle, which look nice when cut.
The flavour of the lime is pretty good and when combined with the chocolate these will remind you of those very different sweets - chocolate limes (hard lime candy with a chocolate centre). The truffles aren't at all sweet, and the chocolate is of the high cocoa kind (naturally bitter). These truffles are therefore not for the sweet-toothed or for kids, but rather for the dark chocolate connoisseur. We'd have preferred more of the balance you get with a Booja Booja truffle... a bitter outside but a sweet smooth centre.
