We were going to start this review with a gag about vegans and 'wholesome pot' but it sort of writes itself...
New on the market from The Food Doctor "The UK's leading nutrition consultancy"(what a mouthful) are Pot Noodle style vegan snack pots. The instant hot lunch pots come in three varieties, one based on couscous and two on a mix of bulgar and quinoa. We took the couscous and lentil pot for a lunchtime spin.
Peel back the foil top and you'll see a cup about a third full of the dried contents. If you've ever eaten a Pot Noodle you'll know the drill...fill to the line with boiling water, stir and wait 5 minutes.
Your lunch has now grown to fill about two thirds of the pot and looks much more likely to satisfy. After another quick stir, you're ready to eat.
The couscous pot is billed as lightly spiced with cumin, although we'd argue it was light-to-medium spiced...the cumin certainly doesn't go unnoticed. The cumin together with the tomato and red pepper is a pleasant enough flavour. Texture wise the couscous is pretty good...quite fluffy, not too soft, not bad at all for a snack pot.
We wouldn't describe these as filling, but you know what to expect from a snack pot this size...a light lunch. A tasty one too.
Verdict: Pots of flavour
