Vegan Easter: Montezuma's Mini Eggs

Montezuma's - Mini Eggs - Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate with Almond Praline

Almond praline filled dark chocolate mini easter eggs. Eleven dairy-free chocolate eggs in a small box that makes an ideal gift for a grown up:

As with many chocolates that are bagged (even when boxed), the chocolate doesn't arrive in 'presentation' quality. The little plugs on the bottom are not quite flush either - we think Montezuma's could work on the appearance a little bit, especially as you're likely to be giving these as a gift. The box is rather nice though.

The chocolate shell is 70% cocoa, so is dark and a little bitter. We wish more UK producers would follow the continental lead, and offer bittersweet as well as bitter options. Not everyone avoiding milk chocolate wants the full-on dark experience.

The almond praline is good, but is overpowered by the shell. Almond praline is delicately flavoured and simply isn't robust enough to be encased in such dark chocolate.

If you're a dark chocolate lover, looking for the high cocoa experience, then these may be for you. If you're just looking for vegan or dairy-free praline eggs, there may be better options around.

We bought ours from Alternative Stores

The Good: Good almond praline
The Not-so-good: Shell chocolate too dark

  1. I bought these for my sister last year and she let me try a few... :p Personally I loved them! All of your comments are completely fair, but if you like rich, dark, nutty chocolates these are perf!
