Review: Vantastic Schnouggi Nougat Bar

Vantastic Schnouggi Nougat Bar

Hazelnut 'nougat' bar from Vantastic Foods. Firstly, a German lesson: Nougat means something different in Germany than it does in the UK/US and France. German 'nougat' is what we call 'gianduja', in other words sweet hazelnut chocolate. This is a mini bar of gianduja:

So this isn't nougat, but it's pretty good gianduja. (We've never seen vegan nougat, not in the true sense of that egg-white, nuts and honey concoction anyway... let us know if you have).

Dairy-Free Vegan Hazelnut Gianduja

This bar is about the size of three chocolates you'd buy from a posh chocolatier, and it's very rich. Though small, it's ideal for sharing, which might be why it's called Schnouggi (Schnuggi without the 'o' is a German word for 'sweety pie' or 'honey bunch').

The flavour is of a really hazelnutty sweet soft chocolate, with the texture of a chocolate truffle. We like it. Even if it isn't nougat.

We bought ours from veganstore.co.uk

Verdict: Sweetie Pie

  1. That looks SO good! I swear I've seen the other kind of nougat on sale at Vegan Essentials

  2. We've noticed that Sweet Vegan sells nougat too... so we'll review it at some point
