Review: Redwood Hot Dog Sausages

Redwood Meat Free Hot Dog Sausages

Classic 'boiled pork' style hot dog sausages. Perfect on a soft roll, with ketchup and mustard. These hot dogs aren't new, but we've never reviewed them, and the idea of a weekend lunch of hot dogs slathered in mustard and ketchup was appealing. If it were wieners we'd have stuck to our favourite senf (German mustard), but these are more the Anglo/American take on the sausage-in-a-bun and squeezy yellow mustard seemed right.

This must be the easiest way to cook sausages. Three minutes in boiling water is all that's required. The aroma from the pan is a bit unnerving... it really does smell like boiled pork.

We did add plenty of ketchup after this shot was taken...
These dogs are quite short and fat compared to the porky kind you find in those glass jars. The sausage didn't quite go end to end in our roll, and you need to stretch your jaw a bit to get your mouth round too. The taste more than makes up for it though... we think these are pretty authentic, if a little firmer than a meat hot dog (maybe horse is quite soft?)

It's nice to have a bit of fast food from time to time, and we think these hot dogs will put a smile on your face.

Verdict: Hot Dickety Dog
