Gluten-Free Vegan: Against The Grain Berry Cookies

Against the Grain gluten-free vegan cookies

Organic cranberry and raspberry gluten-free cookies. Against the Grain are a Surrey-based firm producing a range of gluten-free cookies in five flavours. As well as Berry Delicious, there's Ginger, Almond, Chocolate Orange and Choc Chip & Hazelnut.  We picked up a pack of the berry flavour to see if they're any good.

The cookies are crunchy and biscuit-like rather than soft baked cookies. They're not overly sweet, which is fine as it lets the fruit shine through. The raspberry comes through as an aroma when you bite into a cookie, while the cranberry flavour arrives as you chew...with that intense tangy sweetness you get with dried cranberries.

The gluten-free flour mix is rice, potato, buckwheat and maize. Rice flour, as always, leads to a bit of a gritty texture with these cookies, and we did find them rather dry too. If you eat them with a nice cup of tea though, we think you'll enjoy them.

Verdict: Berry good
