Review: Redwood Mini Sausage Rolls

Redwood Mini Vegan Sausage Rolls

Cold weather calls for hot sausage rolls... vegan ones of course. Redwood recently joined Frys and Linda McCartneys in the vegan sausage roll market (sounds like enough for a Veganoo Taste Test). The mini sausage rolls are cocktail sized and are ideal for buffets and party food, if you can resist eating them all as they emerge from a hot oven.

You get 18 frozen sausage rolls in a pack. They look surprisingly hand made, with the crimping all uneven. The pastry folds are very long, but the picture on the pack suggests this will puff up into crumbly flaky pastry. They don't need brushing, or any prep...just 15-20 minutes in the oven.

Whilst cooking, the smell of delicious flaky pastry fills the kitchen. The hot sausage rolls emerge from the oven looking golden and very appetising... don't prepare these hungry or you'll wolf down half a dozen there and then.

The folds don't really puff up quite as much as on the pack photo, but the pastry is light and crisp. The sausage is familiar if you've eaten any of Redwood's selection before... particularly their pork style sausages. The sausage filling won't fool meat eaters, but it's meaty and tasty and very good for vegan sausage.

We're not sure if these are our favourite vegan sausage rolls, but they're really good, tasty, meaty and very moreish, especially when eaten hot.

Verdict: This season's hot mini
