Review: Alpro 'Fruity & Creamy' Yoghurt

A new rich and creamy version of Alpro's market-leading soya yoghurts. Alpro now have the supermarkets' own brand soya yoghurts to compete with, and are looking for a niche in the premium yoghurt aisle. We chose the peach flavour twin-pack of their new 'Fruity & Creamy' line to see if Alpro have cracked the creamniness code for soya yoghurt.

The pots are a slightly different shape and slightly smaller than their regular yoghurt line. Inside the pots our first impression was that the yoghurts appeared light on chunks of fruit. We weren't quite sure whether the Fruity & Creamy label meant 'extra fruity' as well as 'extra creamy', but this doesn't appear to be the case.

The yoghurt is no thicker than Alpro's regular offering. This isn't a greek-style option of a set yoghurt. The main distinction appears to be in the mouthfeel of the yoghurt itself. The yoghurt contains extra vegetable fat and this does provide more of an enriched mouthfeel, with a creaminess that isn't there in a normal soya yoghurt. It isn't a massive distinction, but we think you'd notice the difference if given these unannounced.

We're not sure we'd go out of the way to choose these over Alpro's regular offerings, but it's great to see soya so firmly established in the supermarket chillers that there is scope for a product like this.

Verdict: Creamy yes, Fruity no.

  1. My fave is the alpro smooth as I don't do bits, just wish they did more flavours, or split them and have four rather than the banana/strawb peach/pear combos

  2. I absolutely love these, so creamy, but far too pricey!

  3. I wasn't so keen on this flavour, the cherry ones were far better for my tastebuds but after a few of these all I could taste was that strong soya undertone and it put me off :(
