Review: Sainsbury's Vegan Cake Sprinkles

Review: Sainsbury's Vegan Cake Sprinkles

A couple of vegan options for sprinkling your vegan cakes with. Most cake decorations contain animal products in one form or another, from gelatin to cochineal, shellac to beeswax. These ones from Sainsbury's are free from all of that stuff. The vegan sprinkles at Sainsbury's are the Sugar Stars and the Eric & Erica Sprinkles (elephant shapes):

Both of the sprinkles are unglazed and naturally coloured, so they aren't too shiny or too bright. The lack of a glaze means the sprinkles can soften up if you keep your cakes in airtight tubs, but this isn't really a problem. The colours are pretty colourfast and don't bleed into your icing. We did find the elephant sprinkles a little too thick and crunchy for our liking, but the star sprinkles had just the right crinch-crunch. The elephant shapes aren't perfect either and some are a little blobby, but kids will find them fun.

Verdict: Throw some shapes... at your cakes!
