Long established organic brand Provamel has only recently made its way into the chiller cabinet in the UK. Their Intenz range of desserts are similar to their UHT range, but are sold as fresh and found in the fridge. The two pack desserts are available in chocolate and vanilla. Does the move from shelf to chiller improve the already great taste of Provamel's desserts?
The ingredients and textures of the desserts are not far removed from the long life range. Like the ambient desserts, these are thicker and more custardy than yoghurts, with a smooth creamy feel in the mouth. The flavours are a little different however. The choco dessert has an intense almost bitter cocoa flavour that dark chocolate lovers will appreciate. The vanilla flavour is also strong but somehow lighter than the UHT desserts...we'd say it's an improvement.
All in, we like these desserts, and we can understand Provamel wanting the prominence of the chiller shelf, we're just not entirely convinced of the resulting extra electricity demand to be there, when their ambient desserts are also very good.
