Review: Reggae Reggae Jerk Nuts

Reggae Reggae Jerk Nuts

Levi Roots' vegan-labelled Reggae Reggae jerk sauce has made its way to the snack shelf. These bags of jerk flavoured peanuts and cashews also carry a vegan label. It's just as well for a bag of nuts with 47 ingredients...you wouldn't want to read the back of this pack in a hurry. The nuts appear to be dipped in the jerk sauce and then rolled in extra jerk seasoning. Do this many ingredients deliver on the flavour front?

Reggae Reggae Jerk Peanuts and Cashew Nuts

The nuts are sweet, spicy, sticky, smokey...everything you'd expect from jerk seasoning. The spice heat from the scotch bonnet chillies is medium-hot rather than wasabi-hot, but beware breathing-in that spice powder as you eat...or you'll get your head blown off. The flavour is rather like a spicy version of dry-roasted peanuts...so if you like those, and you like chilli, you'll love these.

Get yourself a can of Red Stripe beer*, a bag of Reggae Reggae nuts, and enjoy.

(*Red Stripe brewed in Europe is vegan, but not in North America or Jamaica)

Verdict: Hot nuts
