Review: Viana Bratwurst Sausages

Viana Bratwurst Vegan Sausages

Thick, meaty, vegan sausages for frying, from TofuTown company Viana. A limited range of Viana products are available in the UK, and these sausages are one of the more common lines. Bratwurst are traditionally pork sausages, but these are naturally a blend of tofu and gluten:

The sausages come in packs of three, but the serving size suggestion is 1 sausage. We think this is about right, as eating more than one of these beasts is a bit of a challenge.

These sausages burn more easily than others we've tried, but over a medium-low heat they take less than 5 minutes to brown off.

Vegan Bratwurst

Germans always seem to eat fried potatoes and salad with their sausages, so we did the same, with plenty of condiments to perk up the sausages - mayo, ketchup and mustard.

The flavour is less of a pure gluten experience than sausages from Vegusto. The mix of tofu and gluten produces a more balanced taste, that's fairly mild. The texture is rather too tough and chewy for our liking though... almost bouncy. You'll certainly give your jaw a workout if you get through two of these.

Tasty and possibly the most authentic bratwurst available in the UK, just a little over-chewy

Verdict: Bouncy Bangers

  1. Why are there so few viana products being imported to the UK?
