Budget Vegan: Burton's Jammie / Choccie Dodgers

Twin packs of Jammie Dodgers and Choccie Dodgers from Poundland. You've probably had a Jammie Dodger or two, but have you seen Burton's Choccie Dodgers? They're both currently on sale in Poundland in packs of two. Are either as good as you remember from childhood?

Vegan Jammie Dodgers

Jammie Dodgers - for the uninitiated, these are two shortbread biscuits sandwiched with jam. The jam is hard and sticky, and oddly it's actually plum jam that's flavoured as raspberry jam. The biscuits are hard, dry and a bit bland, and the jam does little to improve them really. Kids might like them, but they won't be on our shopping list.

Vegan Choccie Dodgers

Choccie Dodgers - these are a variation on a theme. Chocolate flavoured biscuits with a chocolatey filling. You'd think that would give you a rich chocolatey experience, but it doesn't really. These are also pretty hard, dry and bland. Certainly no better than a bourbon biscuit, although the filling is a bit more chocolate-like than the fondant in a bourbon. Not as flavoursome as an Oreo.

We've reviewed Jammie Dodgers once before, when we compared them to a gluten-free version from Prewetts. The Prewetts version are actually better. Maybe Prewetts could improve on the Choccie Dodgers too.

Verdict: Dodgy
