Guest Review: Pret's New Vegan Stuff

Pret A Manger has an exciting new veggie range and Plumes has kindly reviewed some of the vegan breakfast and lunch options for us:

I have always found Pret pretty good for vegan lunch time options with them usually having one or two options, and in the past few months one of their monthly chef's specials have been vegan so I was very excited to read the news on their website that they were expanding their vegetarian and vegan range:

Their campaign "Not Just for Veggies" (https://www.pret.co.uk/en-gb/Not-just-for-veggies#) is aimed at increasing the amount of veggie options people choose whether they are vegetarian or not. As well as increasing their vegetarian options and improving their labelling they will be turning one of their stores in Soho completely vegetarian in order to challenge their chefs to come up with exciting vegetarian and vegan options. It seems like the tides are definitely turning!

Review: Chocolate Weetabix

Weetabix with Chocolate are vegan

From the official Weetabix vegan list - chocolate breakfast cereal with both cocoa and choc chips. These 'Weetabix with Chocolate' have recently been reformulated. The low sugar claims appear to be gone, and these are sweeter than before, but we won't hold that against them. So with Rice Dream at the ready - have you had your Weetabix?

Review: Dorset Cereals Breakfast Pot

Dorset Cereals Breakfast Pot (muesli) - vegan

We recently reviewed Dorset Cereals vegan chocolate macadamia bar and now it's the turn of their breakfast cereal...a 'breakfast pot' in fact. This is a single serving of muesli in an oversized plastic pot...you supply your own milk. It isn't the cheapest way to get your breakfast, but if you're away from home it's about the healthiest option available. We filled ours with Rice Dream and gave it a try.

Vegan Olympic Breakfast for London 2012

The Vegan Olympic Breakfast

In honour of the start of the Olympics today, we thought we'd put together a vegan version of the famous British 'Olympic Breakfast'. Redwood Rashers, Fry's Sausages and The Vegg vegan egg yolk, together with hash browns, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes...and a good slick of Reggae Reggae sauce.

The Olympic Breakfast gets its name because it takes an Olympian effort to finish it...rather than being the sort of thing Jess Ennis starts the day with. We threw in 3 sausages, 3 rashers, 4 hash browns and a large dipping bowl of hot vegan egg yolk...fantastic stuff.

Ours is slightly healthier than the typical version...still a calorie blow-out...but fine once every 4 years...
