The soya shake market gets bigger by the day. Delamere Dairy have secured a place in the Free From aisle at Tesco with their new drinkable chocolate and vanilla shakes. We haven't come across Delamere before but they appear to produce soya milk and soya desserts too. We grabbed one each of their soya shakes to see how they taste.
Delamere have given themselves an advantage in that these shakes are in the chiller cabinet...cold and ready to go. They also look great which is something producers of vegan products often fall down on. The 230ml cups come with those drink-thru lids you get from coffee shops, so once you remove the foil you're good to go...a little more grown up than the usual mini-straws.
Taste wise we thought these were good..particularly the chocolate one which has a real cocoa kick. The vanilla one is a little more so-so....it's not that distinct from vanilla soya milk really and you can taste the soya a little bit, which not everyone will like. These shakes are meant for drinking through the lid and because of that they are more the consistency of milk than shake...don't expect a thick shake like the Tesco dessert shakes we reviewed last week.
We'd certainly buy the chocolate shake again but would probably pass on the vanilla.
Verdict: Shaking up the Free From aisle.
